Thanksgiving Webquest

| Who are the Pilgrims?
Where did they come from? How did they get here? What did
Pilgrim children do? Why do we have Thanksgiving? Would you
like to know more about the turkey you eat at Thanksgiving? You are
going to do a few activities that will help you find the answers to these
questions. You will also create a story, play some games, and just
have some fun.

| The Tasks: (See directions
below) 1. You will complete a K-W-L chart about what you already know about Pilgrims and Thanksgiving. (KWL Chart) 2. You will visit a picture timeline to learn more about Pilgrims and Thanksgiving. (Picture Timeline) 3. You will read about Pilgrim children and then compare them to yourself using a Venn Diagram. 4. You will visit farms to learn about turkeys. (Turkeys) (All About Turkeys) For Fun: You can create a simple story. You can make a comic strip. You can play a Thanksgiving game.
Activities and Directions: 1. KWL Chart: Click on the KWL chart link and print out a copy. In the first column, you will write down what you already know about Pilgrims. In the second column, you will write what you would like to learn about Pilgrims. When you have completed the Webquest, you will write what you learned about pilgrims. 2. Picture Timeline: Visit the picture timeline. Read about the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians. You can even take a tour of the Mayflower. 3. Pilgrim Children First, visit the site to read some fun facts about Pilgrim Children. When you are completed, click on the VennDiagram. Print the diagram out. In the first circle, write some fun facts about yourself. In the second circle, write some fun facts you learned about Pilgrim children. Where the two circles overlap, write how you and Pilgrim children are similar. NOTE: Difficulties with Venn Diagram-Therefore it will be available at school until problem is corrected. 4. Turkeys: All About Turkeys Visit these sites to learn about turkeys. Click on the activity page to answer three questions about turkeys.
For Fun: Complete at least one for fun activity. Create a Thanksgiving story to print out and share with the class. Click on a story title below to get started. Create a comic strip. Look at the cartoon. Write in the bubbles what you think the pilgrims and the turkey are thinking. Print out your comic to share with the class.
Games and other activities: Read a Thanksgiving Rebus Story. Can you create your own rebus Thanksgiving story? Read comic strips that tell about Thanksgiving. Print out and complete a turkey maze. Play Turkey Drop. How many turkeys can you catch?
Evaluation: Print out the following rubric. Turn in your finished activities with you rubric when you are complete. After completing the activities, you will be given time to share what you learned with your friends.
