The Journal Project

A Journal or blank book is required for this class. Most of you are already familiar with the Art Journal from Junior Honors Art. It is good to start off your senior year with a new journal. However, if you had started one in the summer and would like to continue, you should do so. Your journal is a combination of sketches, diary and scrapbook. You will collect, record and organize your VISUAL and written thoughts, feelings, and expressions. You will “think on paper”, as you plan projects, respond to question, or creatively work out solutions to problem presented. In addition to the required assignments, you should feel free to use you journal for notes, sketches, doodles which you put there because you are interested in some particular object, idea, or form.

The Journal assignments will typically be a biweekly outside class graded assignment, with the exception of the first entry that we will begin in class together. Each journal entry assignment can consist of 1 to four pages.

“The Journal” is mostly for your record keeping. However, they are an integral part of the class and are graded. The Journal becomes you personal reference and self discovery if taken seriously. Please keep on task with the assigned work in your books and make it a habit to insert your own additions.

JOURNAL PROJECT

To begin, your first assignment will be done in class. After that, the journal project will become your bi- weekly homework assignment.  It will be up to you to continue your journal inserts of “choice” that can be presented at interim and end of the nine week period for credit. No credit will be honored without marking the “choice” entries before the journal is turned in for a grade.

5 choice entries @10 points each and

 4 assigned @ 50 points each for a total

of  250 points each nine weeks.

Journal Assignment # 1: =50 points

For your first assignment you are to record three consecutive days in your life. These days do not have to be especially profound, in fact, you can begin recording TODAY. This may be all the better since it will force you to reflect and remember small details of the day and turn them in to a visual expression. Your ideas entered must be accompanied by a brief written statement which explains the significance of the materials.

Three day record assignment:  Must include; writing (thoughts, descriptions & feelings)

Drawing or art making of some type, gathering (collection of memorabilia) and any other images (pictures, etc..) to describe the given time period. Begin by recording something to commemorate today, then one entry for tomorrow, and finally one for the following day. In class you will compile the information in your journals. Think about using your journal as a vehicle for personal expression and a way of explaining, or making sense of your experience.

Due Friday, September, 13.
