Recent scientific studies show that learning a musical instrument actually enhances a student’s academic work in areas such as reading and math, in addition to the well-known benefits to a child’s abilities in the following areas:

- Problem Solving                 - Creativity                           - Concentration

- Teamwork                         - Coordination                      - Self-confidence

- Goal-setting                       - Memory Skills                    - Responsibility

Why learn to play an instrument?” Three reasons…

1. We know through recent scientific research that up to 90% of one’s brain is active during the playing of a musical instrument – more than any other activity! Why is this? In music, one must interpret symbols (reading), do computations (math), watch a conductor (visual), stay together with others (listening, teamwork), and think creatively (expression) all at the same time. Brains develop through use, and music is the ultimate brain exercise.

2. Through music, students learn self-discipline at the highest level. Their social skills, communication skills, self-concepts, cooperative talents and creative mind will all be nurtured through their study of music. What better way to prepare students to succeed in life than by asking them to set high goals, work hard, and achieve those goals?

3. Most importantly, music is an ART FORM. Although we start by playing tunes such as “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, students are soon able to CREATE and EXPRESS themselves through music. Working together as a team to achieve excellence and communicate to an audience is an enjoyable experience that musicians of all ages look forward to each day.
