Guidelines for Practice

Third Grade Strings - Beginners will be asked to practice a minimum of 5 days a week for  at least 15 minutes a day.   Students practicing less than this will not develop the hand strength and note recognition skills necessary to be successful in the school program.  Assignments for the week are written in the chart in the front of the student's method book.  All orchestra music should be practiced in addition to the assignment in the book.  Parents should initial their child's practice chart each week.

Fourth Grade Strings - Practice sessions should increase to 20 minutes.  Students should strive for 5 practice sessions each week to keep up with the school program.  All orchestra music should be practiced in addition to the assignment in the book.

Fifth Grade Strings - Practice sessions should increase to 30 minutes 4 or 5 times per week.  All orchestra music should be practiced in addition to the assignment in the book.

It is recognized that some weeks students are not able to practice the recommended amount due to illness, travel, family commitments, and homework.  However, by keeping these guidelines in mind, students can set reasonable goals and gain the most enjoyment from their elementary instrumental musical experience.

All students are required to fill out a practice chart each week.
