Criteria for Membership
The table shown here is an overview of the selection process.
Letters are sent to all students who, after the first semester of their
junior year, meet the scholarship criterion of a minimum GPA of 3.8500.
If interested in membership, the student then submits a service resume to be
evaluated. If all the requirements are met, the student is inducted
into the National Honor Society in the spring of the junior year, while
active membership begins in the fall of the senior year. Additionally,
seniors who are not members of NHS are invited to apply for membership during
the fall of their senior year if the GPA is 3.8500 or above. To maintain
membership, the student must meet all the requirements outlined in the NASH NHS
by-laws.

Character and Leadership are evaluated on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the highest rating).
The faculty of NASH are given a list of candidates and are asked to rate only those students
with whom they are familiar enough to give a solid professional judgment. To aid the faculty
in this endeavor, lists of character and leadership traits that are recognized by the National
Honor Society in its Official Handbook are attached to the rating form.
The service rating is obtained by analyzing the service resume which the student submits.
Each activity is worth a specific number of points based on an extensive list of activities which
have been evaluated over the years by the NHS Faculty Advisory Council. The members of the
Council are shown below.
