1)      NEP - Identify War Communism. Identify the major changes made by Lenin in the Soviet Union after the Civil War. What were the effects of Lenin’s NEP?

2)      5-Year Plan - Identify the major changes made by Stalin in the Soviet Union in an effort to industrialize at the end of the 1920’s. Identify the effects, both positive and negative, of the first 5-year plan.

3)      The Terror and the Purges - Describe why and when Stalin purged the party.  Identify and describe the conditions of the Soviet Gulag system under Stalin. What excuse did he use to initiate the Great Terror? How many people were killed in Soviet Russia from 1917 to 1953 (not including war losses)? Be able to give examples of at least 5 different groups that became victims at this time.
