Intro Deutsch A – Kapitel Sieben – Study Guide

Our seventh test has ten sections of 5 points each for a grand total of 50 points. The test will cover the areas of listening, reading, culture, and writing based on the material covered in the seventh chapter.
Part A – In this section, you will listen to portions of 5 conversations. Then match each conversation with the picture of the chore being discussed in the conversation. To prepare, know the Wortschatz from page 173 – all of the chores pictured.
Part B – In this section, you will listen to 5 conversations and then decide whether the person being invited a) accepts the invitation or b) declines the invitation. To prepare, know the vocab and explanation from the SSMD boxes on page 174 – especially A) ja, gern! B) Toll! Ich komme gern mit. C) Das geht nicht! and D) Ich kann leider nicht.
Part C – In this section, you will listen as someone describes what he does to help around the house. You will mark a) if you think the statements made are true (stimmt) or b) false (stimmt nicht). This section is difficult, but look on the bright side, you have a 50-50 shot. To prepare, know the chores from page 173 and the following vocab:
1) bei den Hausaufgaben helfen -> to help with homework
2) Spielzeuge –> toys 3) ausflippen –> to flip out
4) Unordnung –> disorder 5) Spass machen –> to be fun
6) Kochen -> cooking
Part D – In this section, you will read 4 weather reports from around the world. Then you will match 5 statements with the correct weather report. To prepare, know the weather vocab from the Dritte Stufe and page 191. The key to this section will be picking out the little key words from compound words. For example, finding kühl in eine Abkühlung. Some extra helpful vocab words are
1) Hitzewelle -> heat wave 2) bleiben -> to stay, remain 3) liegen -> to be at
Part E – In this section, you will read Annette’s response to the question: “What do you do for the environment?” Then decide if the statements are a) true (stimmt) or b) false (stimmt nicht). This section is difficult, but look on the bright side, you have a 50-50 shot. To prepare, know the following vocab

Part F – In this section, you will look at Markus’ calendar planner for February and then complete 5 multiple choice sentences with the letter of the correct activity. To prepare, know the vocab from the Wortschatz and SSMD on page 178 that talks about how frequently one does things.
Part G – This section covers temperatures and weather in Germany. You will decide if the 5 statements are a) true (stimmt) or b) false (stimmt nicht). To prepare, know about the climate of the German speaking countries and have a basic idea of temperature equivalents in Celsius. Check out the EWG on page 184 for help.
Part H – In this section, you will respond in English to the following questions – What do teenagers in German-speaking countries do for the environment? How is this different or similar to what you do? Write at least 5 sentences about the similarities and differences. To prepare, recall our discussions in class about German recycling, smaller cars, water costs, public transportation, etc.
Part I – In this section, you will write 5 sentences about chores that your family must do before you go on an outing. Write 5 sentences indicating who must do each chore. Some of the chores must be done by several people in the family. To prepare, know the forms of müssen (you will have to use plural ones) and chores from page 173.
An example of a sentence might be: Meine Eltern müssen die Fenster putzen.
Part J – In this section, you will write a note for your (imaginary) brother letting him know that you are going swimming asking him to do several chores for you. Include the following items: where you’re going and when; three different chores to do; and when he should do these. To prepare, know the SSMD on page 179 (telling someone what to do) and 3 chores with time expressions – Kannst du die Katze um 6 Uhr füttern?
IF YOU DON’T PREPARE AHEAD OF TIME FOR THIS TEST, DON’T EXPECT TO PASS – YOU WILL NOT HAVE TIME THE NEXT DAY TO FIX UP WHAT YOU DIDN’T DO THE FIRST TIME AROUND!!!!
