Intro Deutsch A – Kapitel Drei– Study Guide

Our third test has ten sections of 5 points each for a grand total of 50 points. The test will cover the areas of listening, reading, culture, and writing based on the material covered in the third chapter.

Listening

Part A – In this section, you will listen to Helmut try to find out where his new classmates live. You will match each dialogue with the picture that best shows the location. To prepare, know the Wortschatz from page 69 and the various ways to get to school from Chapter 1.

Part B – In this section, you will listen to a discussion about the furniture in Jürgen’s room. You will decide whether the furniture was referred to as a) er,    b) sie,   c) es; To prepare, know how to replace nouns with pronouns as shown on page 75 Grammatik box.   

Part C – In this section, you listen to Jürgen offer to get his friends something to eat or drink. At the same time, you will look at a picture of what Jürgen’s mom has in the kitchen. Then you mark whether the food item mentioned is available based on the picture. To prepare, know your food vocabulary from page 71.

Reading

Part D – In this section, you will read descriptions of what people look like and how old they are. Then match each picture with the most accurate description. To prepare, know hoe to describe people – Wortschatz on page 80 is a helpful guide.

Part E – In this section, you will read statements about different items of furniture and mark a) stimmt if the statement describes what you see, and b) stimmt nicht if it does not. To prepare, know the Zweite Stufe and how to describe a room.

Part F – In this section, you will answer 5 stimmt/stimmt nicht questions based on an advertisement from a German real estate section. The ad that will be on the test is on page 82 (Auf dem Lande). To prepare, listen closely when we do the Zum Lesen section this week.

Culture

Part G – This section has two parts – Part A deals with answering about German beverage preferences in English. Check out Ein Wenig Landeskunde on page 71. Part B requires you to write 3 statements in English to compare/contrast German rooms with American rooms. The picture from page 74 is on the test to refresh your memory.

Writing

Part H – This section covers a family tree. You will write 5 sentences telling the relationship of these people to you. Correct use of mein and meine will be needed. Check out the Dritte Stufe to prepare.

Part I – This section covers writing about a personal profile. Examples of these personal profiles are on page 85. You will write 5 sentences about the person. 

Part J – This section covers introducing your friend to your mother and offering that friend something to eat or drink. You will write a 5-line dialog covering the requirements above. Jens conversation in the Los geht’s dialog is a good example. Info can be found in the Erste Stufe.
