Intro Deutsch A – Kapitel Zwei – Study Guide

Our second test has ten sections of 5 points each for a grand total of 50 points. The test will cover the areas of listening, reading, culture, and writing based on the material covered in the second chapter.

Listening

Part A – In this section, you will listen to 5 conversations and look at 5 pictures. When the statement matches the picture, you will select “stimmt” – if the picture doesn’t match, then “stimmt nicht.” (Page 45 – Erste Stufe)

Part B – In this section, you will listen to Petra and Robert talk about activities they like and dislike. You will mark (a) if they like the activity and (b) if they do not. To prepare, know the opinion words. (+ / -) (Page 55 – Wortschatz)

Part C – In this section, you listen to Katja talk about her free time activities. Then you will put them in order according to the order she says them. (Whole chapter vocabulary.)

Reading

Part D – In this section, you will read some signs posted at the entrance to a summer camp that Katja visits on vacation. Then you will decide whether she can do her favorite activities by comparing a list with the signs. (Whole chapter vocabulary.)

Part E – In this section, you will figure out the meaning of a text based on picture and format clues. To prepare, look at the text ads and articles on pages 58-59 in your text and figure out what basic topic they cover. You’ll see the same ones on the test.

Part F – In this section, you will read a postcard sent from one German to another. Then you will answer some stimmt/stimmt nicht questions about it. To prepare, know the vocabulary from the chapter.

Culture

Part G – This section covers formal and informal address. You will be given 5 people (i.e. your mother’s boss) and will choose whether you use formal or informal form with them. (Check the Grammatik and Ein Wenig Landeskunde boxes on page 50.) 

Writing

Part H – This section covers free time activities. Using the same pictures of Der and Die Sporti from page 60 in your text, you will write 5 sentences about what that person does in their free time.

Part I – This section covers time expression first word order. Using what we learn on page 54 in the text, you will answer 5 questions by starting your answers with the time expression in bold-faced type.

Example – Was machst du im Sommer? ____________________________________

Part J – This section covers expressing your opinion and agreeing/disagreeing. In the first part, you will come up with 3 questions to ask Germans about their opinions of free-time activities. Then, in the second part, you will either agree or disagree in German with their answers. To prepare, study the SSMD boxes on pages 55 and 56.
