Intro Deutsch A – Kapitel Fünf – Study Guide

Our fifth test has ten sections of 5 points each for a grand total of 50 points. The test will cover the areas of listening, reading, culture, and writing based on the material covered in the fifth chapter.
Part A – In this section, you will listen to 5 conversations between two friends who are shopping. You will mark gern if the person speaking likes what they are trying on, nicht gern if they do not. To prepare, know the SSMD box from page 125 and your vocab from page 139.
Part B – In this section, you will listen a price in Deutsch Marks and then pick the correct written representation of the price from 3 choices. To prepare, know how numbers in German are formed in the tens and hundreds.
Part C – In this section, you will listen to an ad and decide which item of clothing is being advertised. You will select the correct answer from 4 choices in English. To prepare, know your clothes vocabulary from page 139.

Part D – In this section, you will read sentences and fill in the blank with the appropriate pronoun replacement (either ihn, sie, es, or sie (pl.)). To prepare, know the pronoun replacements in nominative and accusative case – review my charts and the Grammatik box on page 128.
Example – Das T-Shirt ist einfach scheußlich – Nein, ich finde ______ super!
Part E – In this section, you will read through 4 statements that German teenagers made about clothes. Then you will decide who most likely made the English statements listed. To prepare, read the quotes in the Zum Lesen section on pages 134-35. These will be the statements on the test. We will work with them this week.
Part F – In this section, you will read through an ad and then answer 5 stimmt oder stimmt nicht questions in English. To prepare, read the ads on pages 134-35. The K+L Ruppert ad will be the one on the test.
Part G – This section covers true/false questions in English about the similarities and differences between German and American clothing culture. To prepare, check out the Ein Wenig Landeskunde boxes on pages 122, 124, and 126.
Part H – In this section, you will respond in English to two questions about what you would do in a given situation in Germany. To prepare, know how exchange rates work and German shopping hours (EWG – pages 122 and 124.)
Part I – In this section, you will write 5 sentences about the problems people have with their clothing in the picture provided. To prepare, know how to describe problems with clothing (Wortschatz on p. 126) and look at ex. 17 on p. 127. The picture for this exercise will be on the test.
Part J – In this section, you will pretend to write to a German pen pal about what you wear to parties. You must use the verb “anziehen.” Please write a minimum of 3 sentences – describe your shirt, pants, and shoes. An example might be “Ich ziehe die Jeans an.” Also remember to fill in the beginning and end of the letter with proper greetings.
